"Between you and me, in a hundred words, where do you think Van Gogh rates in the history of art?"
"Well… um… big question, but, to me Van Gogh is the finest painter of them all. Certainly the most popular, great painter of all time. The most beloved, his command of colour most magnificent. He transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty. Pain is easy to portray, but to use your passion and pain to portray the ecstasy and joy and magnificence of our world, no one had ever done it before. Perhaps no one ever will again. To my mind, that strange, wild man who roamed the fields of Provence was not only the world’s greatest artist, but also one of the greatest men who ever lived."
Get to Know Clara - #17 She’s an English teacher who loves books.
Although we see that she has graduated early in the series, what her degree was in is not stated until about 9 episodes into her run, but based on interviews with Jenna, she was always intended to have had a degree in English.
While it may not have been stated explicitly, her love of literature and books is consistently shown throughout the episodes. Her room is covered in books with two shelves full of them above her bed (in closer shots you can see many of them are about travel), on her desk she has several books pulled out like she’s been reading them, and when she walks into the kitchen of the Maitland house towards the end of an episode, she picks up a book off the table like she is going to sit down and read it before getting distracted by the Tardis parked outside.
Out of all the rooms in the Tardis, she is most impressed with the Library.
She even makes reference to storytelling in her daily life. She tells the Doctor that good guys in stories don’t have zombie creatures like he is the hero of a story.
When her mind goes completely blank and the Doctor asks her where she wants to go, the single analogy that comes to mind is when someone asks her what her favorite book is. She’s dreamed of traveling all her life, she’s clutching a book of places to see, and yet, like when asked where to go, she blanks. She compares having to choose between every amazing place in the universe and choosing between all the books she’s read - she can’t even come up with a single answer.

6x11 "I stole your childhood and now I’ve led you by the hand to your death. But the worst thing is I knew. I knew this would happen. This is what always happens. Forget your faith in me. I took you with me because I was vain. Because I wanted to be adored. Look at you, glorious Pond. The Girl Who Waited for me. I’m not a hero. I really am just a madman in a box. And it’s time we saw each other as we really are. Amy Williams. It’s time to stop waiting.”"
